I visited Canterbury Cathedral as the second stop on a bus tour departing from London, sandwiched between Leeds Castle and the Cliffs of Dover. We spent 2-3 hours here, which I thought was adequate for someone with historical interest in general but not churches in particular. I purchased an audio guide at the desk which I thought was useful. There... more

We went to Canterbury on the spur of the moment when we visiting London. Canterbury Cathedral is one of the oldest and most famous Christian churches in England. Its a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the cathedral of the Archbishop of Canterbury, leader of the Church of England and the worldwide Anglican Communion. Pilgrims and visitors have made their... more

I have visited this Cathedral several times and without a doubt I think it is the most extraordinary in the World for not only its beauty but history too. Make sure you check the website just before visiting as this place closes at a moments notice. You'll enter through Christ Church Gate (next to Starbucks). Look for the (rare) carved... more

This was the first large cathedral I've ever visited and it didn't disappoint. You could spend hours upon hours wandering both the church and the grounds. I found the crypt to have a very distinct atmosphere that made me feel very reverent. Make sure you take time to really look at the entrance gate to the cathedral- incredible- unfortunately there... more

This magnificent cathedral is inspiring in every sense - it is a beautiful, historic, and spiritual place. Of course, it would be nice if there were no entry fee, but large buildings that are centuries old need money for upkeep. And we're happy to support a church or museum as oppossed to most for-profit theme parks! We toured for a... more

If you must visit Canterbury Cathedral with a wheelchair, make sure of three things 1 - Download their map for disabled visitors; you have to go round the precincts outside to get from the nave to the quire 2 - Remember that you have to leave by the same door that you enter 3 - Closing times vary for each... more

We visited Canterbury Cathedral while on an Astral Travels tour of Dover/Canterbury/Leeds Castle. We had about 2 hours to visit the cathedral and while the exterior did not take my breath away. The interior certainly did. You also are compelled to take a moment and pay your respects to Thomas Becket. Absolutely lovely and high recommend. more

I too am a student, but I chose to pay to go in, and for a good reason. It is a good idea to visit when it is free e.g going to a service etc, however, it's also worth considering why it costs so much to get in. Maintaining the cathedral cost thousands of pounds a year, and the Church... more

I'm a student currently living in Canterbury, the cathedral is amazing both outside and in. A must for a day in Canterbury. However I totally see the last reviewers point about the price- its 6 or 7 quid to get in. Unfortunately it is the main tourist attraction and people will pay it and generally Kent is extortionately priced. My... more

An amazing place to see. Gorgeous building and stained glass windows. It seems however that religon has gone out of the window and money making schemes have come through. If you want to walk around the building, you have to pay, to enter the building, you have to pay, to take pictures, you have to pay for a camera permit,... more
