I wasn't sure what to expect from Dover, but I absolutely loved my day there. I could have spent the whole day along the nearby Cliffs of Dover. It is absolutely beautiful. There are 2.5 miles of walking trails to enjoy. Alternatively I could have spent another day at the castle. Unfortunately the Norman Keep was closed (opens Aug '09)... more

The walk along the White Cliffs of Dover is well worth the trip. Walking at a brisk pace, the 4 mile return walk takes about 2.5 hours, which includes a tour of Foreland lighthouse at the end of the walk. I did the walk in summer and it is lovely. The track is not overly difficult and while it slopes... more

We made a final stop in Dover after visiting Leeds Castle and Canterbury on our bus tour. Although we only spent about 45 minutes in the city, it was memorable and I'm glad I made the trip. You can also see across the Channel to Europe even on a partly cloudy day.... I have heard about the White Cliffs of... more

Took the walk along the cliffs to the lighthouse. Its a 4 mile round trip. Its a really big walk. Its £2.50 to get into the national park, and then another £4 if you want to go up the lighthouse. The lighthouse is nothing spectacular so I decided not to go. Admittedly you don't get the great view as you... more

For my wife, walking along the cliff's was one of the top highlights of our trip to England. We were there on a beautiful, sunny day and France could be seen easily across the channel. We didn't have time to walk the full trail to the lighthouse, but we would love to go back when we have more time. more

We went to see the cliffs on a tour with Astral Travels (this included Cantebury & Leeds Castle). It was neat to see the cliffs and the port. Unfortunately, not near the view that you get from the channel. But, interesting none the less. We only spent about 30 minutes there and walked down a path to see the cliffs. more

When the ferry from Dover to France was delayed I had the opportunity to wait with a view of the White Cliffs of Dover. I had heard the name, but didn't have any expectations. What I found was vivid white cliffs topped by greens and yellow falling steeply into the turquoise sea. To the left the Castle Dover sat atop... more

The walk along the cliffs was great, all the way up to the edge. Don't forget to take the path down the side of the cliff to the water. The castle was also great. Take the tunnels tour, but go there first as it backs up. more

Dover is fantastic. The cliffs and cliff walk are beautiful, the town is interesting (not touristy although services abound), the castle is fascinating (containing everything from a Roman lighthouse to a come-to-life visit to a WWII hospital and mission headquarters) and the beach water quality has been rated excellent. What a wonderful surprise. If you drive 10 minutes north, you... more
