I had not come across Mirehouse on any previous trip to the Lake District, which suggests it needs more publicity as it was well worth a visit. The rain was pouring and we visted Mirehouse on our way back to our hotel one afternoon. Part of the car park charge is discounted against the admission price (the car park is across the road and has several trails running from it as it is the osprey viewing area). “interesting house but disapointing lakeshore”

Mirehouse was an attraction for Victorian intellectuals and the house is charming. However the visit is limited to downstairs rooms only.
