We started with a coffee in the really pleasant visitor centre. We then walked one of the trails, spotting the sculptures which really make you observe the natural sculptural shapes. Spectacular views, well marked trails. Fabulous! Finished with lunch in the cafe. There is something here for everyone. More

At Grizedale Forest (managed by the Forestry Commission), we got a takeaway coffee and tea, and walked the longer version of Millwood Trail. It was a pleasant 1.5 mile walk that first took us along side a rushing stream and then we had a steady climb into the forest above. The walk back to the visitor centre was along a... More

There are lots of different walks and biking trails through the forest of varying lengths. As for the sculpture trails, the best ones are those a bit further away from the visitor centre. More

There are a multitude of walks to choose from in Grizedale forest, with some really stunning views to be had. The only downsides were having to compete with mountain bikers on some of the paths; and some of the scenery was a little spoilt by huge swathes of land that had been cleared of trees. More

Second time I have visited with my 2 boys 12 & 15. We did the go Ape course in the wet! Great adventure and zip lines. Great to see kids in plymsoles and slip on shoes- wear old clothes as your gonna get wet and muddy if it rains! More

Spent most of the day at the forest - did two of the short walks with the pushchair before lunch and had lunch in the cafe. The food, and especially the cakes, were very good! Can recommend the quiches - yum! Very child / baby friendly too. In the afternoon we did the tarn walk with the baby in a... More

Decided to get out and about from Ambleside and a walk through Grizedale quickly turned into us hiring a bike ...was £18 for 4 hours hire. The terrain is pretty steep and was hard going- possibly not suited to those people like me who don't exercise regularly, I was surprised that children could manage some of the basic routes as...
