I was a regular at the wall 10 years ago, and more, so was excited to see how things have changed. Very surprised that there’s been so very little investment, same main wall with even less to go at elsewhere. Climbing holds are ancient and polished. The whole centre has a miserable feel, as did reception staff. Midweek lunchtime and folk queuing for routes. But the biggest shock was the price - quite how they justify this with such competition from Depots and Summit Up. Thoroughly disappointing.

Leading up to our first main visit to Kendal Climbing Wall (KCW) I had called their reception and was guided through the on-line process so as to make our check in a smooth quick process.
Much has changed since I last used KCW.
They seemed very keen to ensure safety first, so I was professionally guided through the process by Rob. He tested my ability to understand the basics in top roping. Sadly, I failed, however he offered me the opportunity to undertake some bouldering skills, which meant us all watching a short video (I could have watched this on-line in my own time through their website!) and then answering some key important questions on an A4 sheet. All this took some time, however I found it more empowering when being of service to my children.
It was like being back at school only this test was optional and was performed whilst consuming one of their great coffee's. Rob stated, he had decided to help me, but normally during busy times I would have been invited back at a more convenient time.
It's also interesting to observe the patience of one’s children through this process.
Rob was professional and clearly showed he cared. I was truly impressed by his conscious professionalism.
After running through my answers and ensuring I was clear about my answers, we started on Level One in the Den.
Austin our youngest (8) loved his time climbing around in his hired climbing shoes. Lucas however (11 years young) showed his impatience and wanted to climb on Level 5. Nagging and pretending to cry, the joys of parenthood!
Rob popped into our Den session exactly on time and was awesome at inspiring & challenging Lucas in trying out the different climbing levels offered – colour coded. That lasted a few minutes, however he still wanted more...
Lucas asked permission at reception, if I could supervise him, not Austin (too young) in the main climbing area on Level 5.
Once again it was interesting to observe my son's childlike nature in being let loose in a 'candy store'! The fantastic range of climbing challenges, from flat to over-hanging. This area clearly catered to a range of climbing abilities.
We could have stayed longer.
NB: I was aware that the weather was going to be wet, so I previously (day before) called KCW and was guided through the on-line process via phone to reserve x 3 places - £1 each.
Before leaving KCW, Rob kindly explained my next job if I wanted to progress to the next level – Learning to Climb part 1. I would need to book on-line for this Introductory 3 x 2 hours session, which would involve learning about many aspects pertaining to climbing, bouldering, harnesses, auto-belays, rope skills, etc.
As both our son’s and I had a great experience, that’s my next move. Any future check-in process will be smoother and so much easier.
Many thanks Rob and the KCW Team. We will be back.

1st Windermere Cubs had a great time on the Crazy Climb walls. There was so many different things for them to have a go at and plenty to keep them busy. They all loved it, those who weren't that confident to begin with soon git the hang of it. The instructors were great at encouraging them to have ago, they were quick to build up relationships with the children and helped them when they got stuck.

Great venue, awesome climbing and history behind it. However, upon arrival, staff member at the front desk was very rude. Felt as though I had walked into the wrong building the way I was looked up and down and spoken to! Not the first time this has happened too.

I understand climbing wall staff have to be a bit strict to prevent accident and ensure safety but the fact that I was spoken down to without even a hello or a good morning I didn’t think was right and put a negative on the day.

Great climbing wall, routes for all levels, fantastic cakes in the cafe but the rude and unpleasant staff member on the desk really did but a down on the day out!

Very good wall.
Unfortunately the lady on the reception wasn't the friendliest. She complained and almost refused entry as we weren't wearing any masks (Nov 2021 so not required anymore). Eventually she let us in but no other climbers in the wall was wearing masks, so I'm not too sure what there issue was with us not having masks.

It seems if you're not a regular member at this wall you're not welcome.

Was surprised at the rudeness of the staff and how unhelpful they were. It felt as though judgements had been made before we even managed to say hello. Won’t be going again

Have been climbing for over 10 years but live in the east of England so never had a chance to go here. Was near Kendal on holiday so went along and was surprised by how big it was. Loads of routes for bouldering, lead climbing, auto belays and they offered to put a rope up if you just wanted to rope climb but not lead. Price was fair for the amount on offer (over 5 stories of different rooms). Routes were interesting with different hold types and even a roof section for longer bouldering. Staff were really friendly and helpful (and patient when doing our cometency test before letting us loose). Well worth a visit just make sure you allow a good few hours to make the most of the place.

This was my first time trying rock climbing, and the service was fantastic. The overseer we were given was very patient with me and very relaxed and chill. The service was friendly, wore masks for most of the time, and they gave us some good instructions.

The climbing walls are great too, really fun to try, although be careful and don't make the same mistake as me, as they are not easy in any way shape or form.

I didn't enjoy my rock climbing experience, but that was in no way the fault of the staff or services, I discovered that I simply don't enjoy rock climbing.

Thank you to Kendal Wall for putting up with me, as I struggled to get the kit on and struggled to climb as well XD

Our ten year old had a great time on the crazy climb with the added bonus of the sky jump. He really enjoyed it. Instructor was great and made sure he felt save and had the confidence to give the more challenging climbs a go.

As a very new climber going with my boyfriend who has a lot more experience, the centre had something for all levels. They have great smaller walls for bouldering and belaying where we could warm up and build my confidence and knowledge. We were then able to move on to the huge belaying walls where even watching some of the climbers was enough fun! Great to then be able to use the auto belays and practice my belaying too. Just such a well set out place - we were in Kendal on holiday and went twice in one week!
