This small museum is packed from floor to ceiling with information - and would take hours to do it real justice! We only visited because it was a wet day, having passed it on previous visits, but once inside we were taken with the friendliness and encyclopaedic knowledge of the proprietor and the real insight into the working lives of... The gentleman really knew what he was talking about and we stay about 40 miles from one in Scotland and he knew about it also. More

Good to see on a rainy day and there are plenty! Interesting to see how slate is obtained & crafted - you can buy almost anything made of slate. A look inside the old days and how things were back then. The pencil making factory is also interesting. More

Well, where to begin? As other reviewers have said the building is small. However, each nook, cranny, cabinet, spare wall is simply jam packed with mining memorabilia/artefacts. Add into that the most fascinating and brilliant owner who managed to elicit joy, wonder and interest from 4 tired yongsters (it was the end of the day, the weather had been a... More

Lots & lots of stuff collected from a wide variety of mining industry types, not just the local mines. The proprietor takes time out to make it interesting for all ages. A wealth of information available. More

You only need an hour to have a look round this museum. Ian Tyler is a real enthusiast and is willing to spend time with you to tell you more about the artefacts. He also has a worksheet for children to complete that helps them find their way round. Although it is predominantly about Cumbrian mining there is quite alot... More

We only went here because it was pouring with rain, but we were pleasantly surprised. The guy running it is a real enthusiast. The tiny rooms are packed with information and artefacts. We learnt so much about geology and local mining conditions. The man spent a lot of time with children who were interested. Well worth a visit! More
