“Interesting Stone, but rip-off for the car park”

We wanted a short stop to see the Bowder stone, but were put off by the extortionate charge by the National Trust for the car-park. It is £3-60 for 2 hours and you cannot buy anything less than 2 hours - our stop was less than 30mins - walk down to the stone - climb up and look around it... more

On a trip to Borrowdale we visited the Bowder stone. Part of the enjoyment is seeing the stone appear, if you have not seen it before. The stone has a history that has been lost in time adding to its attraction. On one side can be seen the remains of a face. Visit the stone if you are in the... more

The bowderstone is in the beautiful valley of Borrowdale and while it is an interesting geological feature and free to visit, there are more interesting and attractive things to do in Borrowdale (e.g. Derwentwater, Catbells, Honister Slate Mine).
