Not much here but worth a visit. High above the lake there are some interesting caves. If you are walking from Ambleside to Grassmere or vice versa, it is midway and you may wish to stop at the 'Badger bar' at the Rydal end of the lake wher they serve good food at lunchtime as well as in the evening. The scenery is fantastic and the variety interesting with some slight hills, wooded areas, open grassland and the town of Grasmere (perfect for a cream tea rest stop). More

I took the bus from Windermere to Rydal Hall and walked alongside Rydal Water. It was so exhilerating being out amongst such wonderful scenery that I carried on walking and eventually ended up in Grasmere. More

i reccomend a walk around Rydal Water especially, if like me, you are a ovice and do.t like getting lost. Get the "Grassmere" bus, ask for Rydal Church. And get off at the car park that is about 1.5 miles from Ambleside. More

There ARE a number of walks from here, most of them lovely, but the real gem is Loughrigg Terrace, a traverse of the hillside above Rydal Water and Grasmere gained by a fairly gentle climb. Stunning views over the two lakes and up to Helm Crag and Dunmail Raise. If it's culture you are after then the Wordsworth museums at... More
