This experience was quite expensive but since my Dad likes trains and my Mum enjoys eating out I decided to book it anyway. The staff were brilliant and were particularly helpful with assisting my Mum who has mobility problems. The food was nice. it is a shame that you can not select the meal that you want but at least... We just got back from our Day Out With Thomas which my little boy LOVED. We were a bit apprehensive about coughing up £15 per adult to see a few trains when you basically pay the same amount to get into Thomas Land for a whole day if you take one of their BOGOF offers. Our little one is only... More

The kids bought us a "Sunday lunch on a steam train" voucher as a Christmas present. We had a great time - very well appointed "pullman" first class dining cars & the food was excellent, as was the service. The ride started at 12:45 & ended at 15:15 & travelled through some lovely scenery (as well as one or two... More

The railway offers a decent length ride and goes through some nice scenery. The coaches are better than most steam railways and are smartly kept. However much more could be done to improve the views from the train in some areas by dealing with encroaching vegetation. Catering facilities are basic at both Bury and Rawtenstall stations and they really need... More

I live fairly near this railway and travel on it quite a bit. Often use it to go Shopping in Bury rather than parking there. Can be quite pricy if you don't live locally - If you do then a Residents permit (http://www.eastlancsrailway.org.uk/visit-us/residents-permit/) makes it much much cheaper - even if you only travel once or twice a year. The East Lancashire Railway is an absolutely fantastic day out. With the choice of diesel and steam engines, the kids will love it. With buffet cars and cafe's at most stations, and loads of local attractions it is definitely a day out I would recommend for children young and old!!! More

I took the family on the steam train on Saturday. There was a kids travel free offer on so I only had to pay for three adults which was really good value. I have been on the railway three times now and have always had a fantastic time. The carriages had been recently refurbished and were really clean. I have... More

For our work Christmas party this year we went on the East Lancashire Railway Christmas dinner excursion. The station pub is inviting and when we went onto the platform to board the train - the bellowing steam and lamp lit carriages bedecked with Christmas decorations were quite magical! Once on board the food was traditional but well cooked and of... More

I might be daft, but I catch a train from Heywood to go to a shop in Ramsbottom - much more relaxing than going by car even though it takes about 10 times as long. The whole of the line from Heywood to Rawtenstall is interesting and you get "proper" steam locos and diesels - not the small industrial locos... More
