Worth taking the "River Cruise" option which runs partway along the Waterfront before docking on the opposite riverbank. There is a taped commentry pointing out landmarks and with some history of Liverpool and the river. The Ferries run about every half hour and the view of the Liverpool Waterfont is tremendous. Only down-side is that it's impossible to hear the running commentary. We have been on it twice, and have been unable to hear it both times. Essential part of the trip, really. More

Now, I'm a local so I could go on this anytime I want, however this is a lovely way to see the city particularly on a warm day. Even then, take a jacket or coat as the wind can be strong. A big ship was in Liverpool on a visit, so I boarded the ferry to Seacombe, which gave me a grand view of the ship and I was able to take some photos. More

If you are visiting Liverpool you must go for a ride on the Ferry. No better way to see an iconic World Heritage Status waterfront. More
