If you need a rest after visiting the British Museum -- and who doesn't? -- this is a good place to put your feet up. It looks exactly the same as when I first stopped in thirty years ago, although nowadays a pint of bitter costs around GBP3.50 and lager GBP4.00. The food is overpriced and nothing to write home...

I see that this is filed under "nightlife" and while I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for a raging night out, I definitely enjoyed stopping at this pub after a visit to the British Museum. Nice atmosphere, decent wine for my girlfriend and London's typical wide selection of beer for myself, charming old building, overall a nice location.

This place is listed in many tour books because it's original and located right across the British Museum. This does not make it a good recommendation based on these facts only, however. I was not surprised to read the negative reviews of this old classic pub, we found the same conditions. My wife and I have enjoyed a pint or two there every fall going back to the days when the orange tabby cat from the book shop down the street occupied a stool even in the busiest of times. Last year...

We went here for a pint of ale, which was delicious. As we were tired, and despite the surfeit of acceptable restaurants in the neighbouhood we opted to dine in the pub (we really like ale). The food was both expensive and absolutely disgusting. I had a chicken pie, which was on the weekly specials. It was indescribably disgusting and...

Museum Tavern....how you have fallen!
I remember reading about the Museum Tavern years ago in travel guides. Always good marks for atmosphere, drink and food. Especially food. Also a great location right across from the main entrance to the British Museum. I tried over the years to custom the place, but it was always full. I only managed a visit...
