Wonderful pieces of art on display but the most amazing thing was in the basement was a discovery of a roman amphitheatre. More

Well worth a visit! We visited on a quiet sunday which meant we could wander round the beautiful art works at leisure. Lovely, relaxing place and friendly staff. Admission free! What more could you ask for? More

Go to the basement to see Londons Roman amphitheatre. See all the painting showing London through the ages. More

This gallery is off the art trail, so to speak and, as a result, it's generally uncrowded. Nice collection of Pre-Raphaelites and paintings of London. It won't take you all day to make it around, either. More

This modest collection of paintings and works of art belonging to the City of London Corporation is unique. My favourites are 'La Ghirlandata" Dante Gabriel Rossini painted at Kelmscott Manor (the frame is of particular significance in its design and intricate medallions), a Lord Frederick Leighton and "Pyrrhic Dance" by Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema. There is also a permanent subterranean exhibition... More

I went there to see the exhibition about Atkinson Grimshaw and I was not disappointed! The Art Gallery was a bit difficult to find with all the road work but is was rewarding. The exhibition was not over crowded so it was a pleasure to have the time to admire each painting carefully! More

I was in London for the day and visited the gallery for the first time. It is next to the original guildhall building which is a beauty to look at itself. I was unaware however until I got there that below the gallery was the Roman amphitheatre remains. There is not much left of them but you can get an... More

This place sits in a beautiful square, hidden almost...It houses some wonderful pieces by Alma Tadema, Millais, Rosetti, Holman-Hunt to name just a few. They are stunningly displayed, with plenty of room to stand back and admire. Underdround there is also the Roman amphitheatre, or remains of it. Just staggering! What is odd, is that there are so few tourists... More

I visited this art museum, which is in the city, or financial center of London on a weekend. It was perfect. It is hidden in the maze of streets near St. Paul's, but what a find! It is run by the city of London, has some huge oil paintings of historic battle scenes, old London, as well as great scenic... More
