Try and visit when there is a "Costumed Tour". Our guide appeared as the lady of the house and was really excellent and convincing to give the flavour of the time. Apparently they are all professional actors and can also be the owner and the cook! Its also known as "18 Stafford Terrace". You can very easily combine this with... More

This tour definitely lived up to expectations. As you enter the house downstairs you watch a 10 minute movie summarising the life of Punch cartoonist Edward Linley Sambourne and the history of the house. Once the movie has finished you are led outside and then enter the house with the costumed guide (Sat & Sun 1pm, 2.15pm & 3.30pm). This... More

I can only agree with earlier reviewers about how interesting this house is. I would add, though, that we did the 11.15 tour which is not led by a 'maid' and our guide was one of the best we have had anywhere. Not only was she interesting and informative, she spoke very clearly and loudly enough for us to hear... More

We decided to visit Linley Sambourne House for one of their costume tours, we were not disappointed. This has to be the best guided tour we have ever done, the actress playing the part of housekeeper was fantastic. She was totally in character throughout, from the moment our group entered the stunning William Morris inspired property, we were transported to... More

If you want a taste of what life was like for a middle class family in 1899, got to Linley Sambourne House. And can I suggest that you book a tour with one of the costumed actors? The day we went Mrs. Sambourne was played by an actor who had a wealth of knowledge both about the house and women's... More

18 Stafford Terrace has to be seen to be believed. Walking through the door is like stepping back in time. The costume tours hosted by an actress are good fun, however, a little sparse on the architectural and interior fact. More

We had to book a tour of the house which was easily accessible by underground and a short walk. The entrance is down some fairly steep steps into the area. The house is much as it was when Linley Sambourne, a cartoonist for Punch magazine, set it up in the late 1800s in the aesthetic style, and is full of... More

We booked a costumed tour at this Victorian house, the home of Punch cartoonist Edward Linley Sambourne. It is a great way to relive how he and his wife Marion, their two children and their servants lived at the end of the 1800's. The original decor is kept as in Sambourne's time. The house also served as the set for... More

this place is amazing!! an hour of stepping back in victorian times and the "maid" who showed us around was fantastic she really made the victorian times come alive with her knowledge and made it fun too. you have to book up in advance as it is very popular. a very enjoyable tour we will not forget as it is... We chose the first tour of the day and got shown round by what the website calls a “conventional guide” rather than an actress. But what a guide she turned out to be. Shirley Nicholson is the author of A Victorian Household, the book which the Sunday Times descried as “utterly riveting”, and which is based on the diaries of... More
