The DLR co-exists in London with the Underground and despite the shared use of the roundel badge but in different colours, looks and feels very different. Opened in 1987 it has grown enormously from its modest beginnings with just 11 trains - really automated trams - and two route to the extesive network of today.

We used the DLR during the London Marathon Weekend and despite the crowds and the ongoing construction work at many stations, the service was excellent and as it links in with the rest of the underground network, it was a real treat to be able to reach Central London from the Docklands area with only one change. Riding the Docklands light railway can be for transportation or simple pleasure. Either way, it is an interesting and scenic ride. This is the only train in the underground system where you can sit right up front and look out as though you were driving the train.
