After walking up 1000+ steps of stairs at St. Paul's Cathedral, we wandered over to the Monument, which required us walking up a couple hundred more steps. The Monument has reopened recently. It's now three quid to climb. A word of warning, if you are not fit it is 311 steps up a narrow winding staircase. That is a seriously long way! At the top the views of Tower Bridge, St Pauls and the Thames are fantastic..worth the climb. You get a certificate on the way out... more

It's a good time killer for 2 Quid! If you have the stamina do it! It is not that easy a climb but manageable if done slowly especially if you are unfit. This monument is a tower built in memory of the Great Fire of 1666. It is almost 300 steps straight up (via a narrow spiral staircase). If you are claustraphobic - don't do it. For a fabulous view of the London skyline climb the 311 spiral steps up the Monument. It is only two pound (and you get a certificate) and has a 360 degree observation deck.
