My husband fulfilled a lifelong dream and took me on the Orient Express between Venice and London, with a two day stop in Vienna. I did enjoy the experience, but if we hadn't booked a double compartment, it would have been very uncomfortable. Plus, one bathroom per car is not exactly luxury travel. The bathroom in the British Pullman between... more

We have just returned from Venice after travelling there from London Victoria on the Venice Simplon Orient Express. After reading other reviews we were slightly apprehensive about the trip, but these were laid to rest once we arrived at Calais Railway Station. It is important to remember that the trip from London to Calais is NOT the Orient Express, but... more

It's surprisingly difficult to find non-commericial reviews of the Orient Express but my wife and I wanted to try it to celebrate our 40th Birthdays. I suppose, given the price, we were expecting it to be good but it was much, much more than this and a very special departure from the usual flight home. We took the Venice to... more

We travelled to Venice on the OE on 14 May 09 and was so very disapointed. the trip to Folkstone on the British Pullman was wonderful ... but then it all went downhill. Off the train onto coaches for the 2 mile trip to the tunnel - 1.5 hours later we got on the tunnel [ not once leaving the... more

No real spot to review luxury train travel on Tripadvisor, but I'll give it a go. I've always dreamed of taking a luxurious train trip, and this route was recommended in the book '1000 things to do/see before you die' - so we gave it a go! We made the mistake of booking the smallest, and least expensive cabin. I... more

We travelled on the VSOE from London Victoria to Venice in June 2008 on the first leg of our honeymoon, and what a fabulous start to our trip! It was a wonderful, once-in-a-lifetime experince which I would recommend to anyone - it's not often in today's hectic world that you actually 'enjoy' a journey and are treated with the attentiveness,... more

We took the Eastern and Oriental Express from Singapore to Bangkok. It was just wonderful, the train looks beautiful from the outside and the inside is even more amazing. We had a state cabin which was perfect, I think the pullman cabins looked a little tight for space. Everything is so well organised and the food is amazing and beautifully... more

As part of a treat to celebrate my wife’s birthday we spoiled ourselves by traveling to Paris from London on the VSOE, Venice Simplon Orient Express. This had always been a pipe dream of ours and while the cost was a little off putting, some committed saving provided us with the funds. Reviews are very few and far between so... more

I booked a trip on the London to Venice Orient Express for my wife’s special birthday in May. We found the experience overrated. The check in at Victoria (11.00am) was very poor in the sense there is a lounge, but no refreshments apart from a tatty coffee bar in the station, I would have expected some sort of refreshment area,... more

We spent around 24 hours travelling from Bangkok to Chiang Mai aboard the Eastern and Orient Express. We stayed in a state compartment and were thankful for this as the Pullman's looked very cramped indeed. The highlight of the trip for us was the superb cuisine, made all the more special given the conditions the chefs work in. Like the... more
