In the olden days you could get a pint here for less than two quid. I haven't been in here in a few years (about 2 or 3), but prices have almost doubled since then. I will now avoid Samuel Smiths pubs as they have massive mark-ups on their own branded drinks. I can find better places now to drink.... More

loved the history and friendliness of this pub all bartenders were more than willing to not only serve you an ale or food but let you know all the stories and history associated with the place as well. More

Go for the atmosphere and beer, not the food. Its a place to enjoy being in- imagine Sydney Carton glooming at a table near the fireplace, or Dickens having a quiet pint with an acquaintance in the corner. The food is an afterthought, being processed and undoubtedly microwaved out of the freezer. I tried the beef and ale pie, which... More

The Cheshire Cheese is a fantastic place, its' like you have stepped 300 years back in time. As it's next to Dr Johnstone's house, I kept expecting Robbie Coltrain to walk in and shout "Sausage!!" at the top of his voice ! However, because it's a Sam Smiths pub, you wont get any branded beer, cider, wine, shorts or anything... More

My partner and I read about this pub in the rough guide to Europe on a budget. Staying not far from here, we decided we'd pop in for a pint (or in my partner's case a gin and tonic as he doesn't drink beer). All the beers are by an independent brewery - Samuel Smith (who owns these pubs) -... More

We went there on our last night in London. Got there late (for us) around 8:00 pm. The server seated us after only about 5 minutes wait - we had not made reservations. The food was great! We really enjoyed it - especially the dessert - the Bread Pudding. Would definitely go back for more of the ambience & good... More

This pub is not just one of the oldest pubs, but one of the oldest buildings in the city - the first things to be built after the 1666 fire were pubs for the workers. It was really unusual going down into the deep cellars; a very historic atmosphere. We were doing a day tour of London sights, starting at... More

The Cheshire Cheese is a bit of a regular for me, I've been there a few times. Originally following in the footsteps of Ernest Dowson, the famous Victorian poet and friend of Oscar Wilde. This pub was the meeting place of 'The Rhymers' Club' an 1890s group of the literary decadent elite. The haunt of Dowson, W B Yeats, Lord... More
