I loved the whole experience. At first we thought £8.50 was quite pricey but after spending over 3 hours looking around and also grabbing a bite to eat and drink before leaving we soon changed our minds. Also our ticket was valid for 12 months.Wasnt too keen on the war section but it was only a small part. Castle Museum is run by York Museums Trust under the overall control of the City of York Council and offers a wealth of fascinating exhibits portraying the rigours of life in York in bygone eras, especially the 17th and 18th centuries. The subject matter is quite captivating - especially the prison cells - but our overall impression of the museum... More

sitiated oposite from a large carpark the museum occupies buildings of a former castle and then prison complex. Without sounding a little clichéd it is a real museum of peoples life though the ages, a nice fun mix of old household equipment including early washing machines, toilets and cookers showing the evolution domestic life. I would have to disagree with... More

Wonderful grounds, amazing history lessons. The Vikings, Romans, Catholics, Protestants, Jews, Red & White Roses - so much sadness and lessons to learn. Beautiful how so much has survived to tell the tales. More

Not much info or exhibits on castles but lots of reconstructions from Victorian era and from the sixties. Also exhibits to show how various household chores have changed over time, even a version of my Nan's old twin tub made an appearance! The toy exhibits were good too, being 80s children my husband and I loved the early computers and... More

I love this place! Fascinating exhibits of birth, death, farming, kitchens, rooms and much, much more and of course the Victorian street and shops. Well worth the admission fee! More

Loved this museum. Found the exhibits really interesting, especially loved seeing the rooms set out in their period of history which brought back memories of grandparents and elder relatives houses! Would definitely recommend a visit for all More

This is a excellent museum with things for adults both adults and children. I have been there a few times and never bore of it.The highlights are the reconstructed rooms and in particular the cobbled street with shops, bank, school, jail and more. There is plenty to see and its easy to spend hours in here. More

The museum does not have a huge amount to do with the castle but it is still a very interesting. Just a note, there is literally no wheelchair access in this place, just something we noticed while walking round, also there are a lot of stairs and quite a lot of walking involved. For the price i think it is... More
