Still in remarkably original condition, this low entry price architectural gem is on show for your benefit, not to make money for the owners, who, remarkably enough, are the same organisation that commissioned it. The roof is especially impressive. There can't be many secular buidings this old anywhere in the world. It's beautiful and has an interesting history to boot.... more

A gorgeous mediaeval building both inside and out. Beautiful gardens next to the river- great place to eat your packed lunch. The building itself is stunning with original features. A good audio guide is included in the very cheap entrance fee. Toilets were by far the nicest and cleanest we found in York apart from our guest house. We stumbled... more

While in York The Merchant Adventurers Hall is a must see. It is beutiful inside and out. A real step back in time. If you love old buildings do not miss this. The entrance fee is only a couple of pounds so its real value for money and they do an audio tour. I can't recommend it enough. more
