We got married in museum gardens and St Mary's abbey was the back drop to our wedding photos - absolutely gorgeous! More

Aesthetically stunning; undoubtedly. The ruins of this previously grand monastery enjoy ample information plaques and seating surrounded by pretty signposted flower gardens. It's proximity to the York Museum makes it a must visit. More

We would have missed this if we had not bought the Audioguide at The Visitor Centre for York Walls. It was incredible stepping into the Museum Gardens and being confronted with the ruins. Very picturesque and very interesting history. Will put this down for a must see in York. And if you are a keen photographer, you will certainly enjoy... More

Abbey ruins are among the most picturesque and interesting sights in Britain. They are both beautiful and thought-provoking. What would life have been like if....?
