To coin a phrase from a well known sportswear company 'JUST DO IT'.....you really will have the best time. We were a family group of 8 (aged 7 to 70) and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, even the ride up to the observatory was an experience in itself! It really is an awesome experience - the volunteers are extremely knowledgeable... More

Following the recent review which I thought was totaly unfair, I thought it was time I wrote my own. I was also attended the Public Observing event on the 30th May., I will tell you about my own experiences. I have been to Kielder Obssy 5 times in total, and I also have another couple of events booked. I have... More

We attended a family event but unfortunately it was windy and overcast. We therefore couldnt see anything. At one point there was talk of letting people look through the smaller telescopes to see the trees but this never happened. We were therefore subject to a talk and slideshow of some stuff that was available on youtube. We were all rather... More

We too attended the 'public observation' on 30 April and were treated to a fantastically clear, moon-free, night sky. We live in a heavily light-polluted area and, when you're only used to seeing a handful of stars in the sky, it is truly remarkable to see just how many stars are up there. Everybody took turns to have a look... More

Kielder Obseratory is one of those special places that will have you returning again and again. I was lucky to visit on a clear Moonless night. When we arrived the Sun was shining and we were able to look through a solar scope and see the sun spots. We then went into the observatory for a most interesting talk by... More

We spent a great evening at the Aurora Night in April. Gary Fildes is an inspirational guide and speaker for people who are totally novices, like us, and for more experienced observers of the skies. We were lucky with clear skies for the first part of the evening and then it clouded over, but there was still plenty of interest... More

We were part of a birthday celebration party, setting off on a snowy stormy night on an adventurous minibus sat nav drive onto Kielder. Weaving our way up the snowy trail into the depths of the forest. The Observatory is well sign posted tucked away rising out of the forest. At first impressions it looks like a cosy wooded cabin!... What an little piece of heaven this place is. We are hooked, and lucky enough to live within reasonable driving distance of the observatory, so we have been several times. Every time is amazing, Gary Fildes and his team of volunteers are welcoming and very informative without overwhelming an everyday body like me, although you are in no doubt that... More

My Fiancée and I visited on Wed 13th March 2013. We couldnt have picked a more perfect night to attend. The weather was amazing, no clouds and the amount of stars we could see was fantastic. Gary and his team were great. Gary took the time to ferry us from the bottom of the track due to the frost/ice making... More

We were booked in at the observatory on Wednesday evening on the public viewing night. The day had been overcast and misty and the evening just added 'dark' to the mix so we knew we weren't going to see any stars. Astronomer and the driving force behind the observatory is Gary Fildes who gave us the most incredible and enthusiastic... More
