This is a beautiful place - but beware it is very exposed especially round Crag Lough and you can get extremely wet if it's wet and windy more

We had a walking holiday along the National Trail that follows Hadrian’s Wall, stopping off at B&BS along the way, with 2 nights at Vallum Lodge at Twice Brewed to gives us more time to look around Vindolanda and the Roman Army Museum. IN the event we only got to Vindolanda - it's a huge site, with its own museum... more

my friend and visited part of hadrians wall last year and found it interesting.we walked along part of it and the views were amazing.it stimulated our imagination to think we stood on the very edge of the roman empire and thought of the soldiers so far from home. to get the most from it you really need to be interested... more

I have fond childhood memories of exploring the forts, visiting the museums and walking alongside the Roman Wall. There's so many unique things to see and do it's worth a visit if you're in Cumbria or Northumberland. more

Best to go out of season, as it has become so popular. Although received wisdom is to walk it from East to West, this is because of the easier communication links - i.e. rail and flights to Newcastle etc. If the weather is uncertain, it is far better to walk from West to East, as you then have the prevailing... more

Walking along the Hadrian's Wall Trail with our children is one of our greatest delights. The children keep asking for the story behind the stones, the forts, the towers and the ruins. They ask about the views to the north and the people of the north. They see the Tyne Valley and the Pennine Hills, the remains of lime kilns,... more

Having been born in Newcastle it was to my everlasting shame that I had walked about 2 miles of Hadrians Wall. This year in August my wife and I decided to take an extended weekend starting off in Newcastle and ending up half way along the wall in Haltwhistle. It was truly stunning with fair weather, excellent waymarking and easy... more

Even if you are not a history buff, take the time to see this wall if you are in your own car - purhaps you can find a tour if you do not have a car. It is easy to imagine the wall 20+ feet tall. Take the time to locate Sycamore Gap on the wall for the scene from... more

My husband and I planned a five-day walking trip of Hadrian's Wall for June 2002. There are tour companies which will arrange such walks, but I wanted to save money and do it myself. What I didn't want to do was carry a backpack. After considerable reading, we decided on a route that would start in Brampton (Cumbria) and end... more
