I went along for a trip to Nottingham Castle with a local community trip and have to say I was sorely disappointed. Whereas I was expecting at least a bit of an old ruin, there seemed to be more new stuff than old! The grounds were gorgous and immpeccably kept but the castle consisted of a few rooms with museum... more

The important thing to note before visiting Nottingham Castle is that "Castle" is something of a misnomer. If you are expecting a medieval castle evocative of Robin Hood, Kind Richard and the Crusades, you will be disappointed. The gatehouse is the only part of the medieval castle still standing - the rest is more in the style of a stately... more

Visted the Castle in Sept 2005 and was very disappointed. I suppose I was expecting the 'Sherrif" or something but It was not the Castle. The only remants of the original castle was the gatehouse. I was hoping to find/see something of the time that King Richard left for the crusades but not here. more
