I have now visited Nottingham Contemporary twice for different exhibitions and both times with young children (nine and six years old). I am very keen on introducing children to a variety of art, culture and whatever before they get fixed ideas, and this is a great place to do it. Very very good and child-friendly curatorial staff who genuinely want... More

I am full of praise for the Contemporary having visited on many occasions. However, the cafe leaves much to be desired. Indolent, over familiar staff, unhygienic practices, food left uncovered throughout the day, I was served a tepid cappuccino. As with most eating facilities within an art gallery/facility the staff seem to be under the impression that they don't need... More

There are lots of plaudits for the gallery, but I just wanted to add a plug for the café too. The food is very good - I had a really nice welsh rarebit (though I'm not sure the experience was enhanced by eating off a slate rather than a plate). They have very nice cakes and the tea is excellent... More

I have been visiting this gallery since it opened almost 2 years ago. It never fails in its mission to bring modern, provocative art to the East Midlands. For such a small building, it packs in the exhibits without feeling cramped or crowded, and they are usually well curated and displayed. The building itself leaves a lot to be desired,... More

We came primarily to see the 'Jean Genet' exhibition, which was supurb. We also had lunch in the cafe, which really is a destination in its own right. The food was very good, was a few veggie options. The building is amazing, but does not distract from the art. What made the visit so pleasant was the staff. Everyone was... More

I have visited several times sometimes I enjoy it and sometimes I don't - but that is the fun or not of it but as it is free it does not matter Generally my kids who both enjoy doing art do not like looking at it. However, the best part is the Cafe Couture down stairs. More

I've been here a few times; the opening exhibition including the 1960s space race in Russia and East Germany was very good. However, some recent stuff is pretentious nonsense although you are supposed to take it seriously. The current Chinese 'sculptures' of a pissing aluminium dog and a cut up aircraft full of bats - need I go on? Amongst... More

This is a fantastic place tucked away next to the lacemarket tram stop. Exhibitions are great, and free, although they have a donation box if you would like to contribute. A place where the arts are celebrated, they also do kids activities at the weekend which goes down well. Lovely relaxing cafe bar too! More

The best attraction in Nottingham for years. A really striking design of building, ingeniously folded into the site. The exhibitions usually run for about 3 months. We have not missed one since it opened - a very varied selection of contemporary art. Always interesting and challenging, though it may not be to everyone's taste. The wee man (aged 6) liked... More
