The Britannia Stadium was built at this location (about 2 miles South of their previous spot, the Victoria Ground) because there were various grants available for building on an area which was previously for coal mining and so due to jobs lost in that particular industry if Stoke City F.C. could help generate some employment then European Community money etc... More
