Just been to Whitley Bay, a couple of nights away with the wife, it was a real tonic. We stayed at the Oaktree Lodge Hotel on the Esplanade and it was first rate. Clean, roomy and a first class full english breakfast(free range eggs and butcher's bacon and sausage) complete with Porridge, if required. We has an evening meal in... more

we are just back from here and our kids enjoyed the beach, aquarium, golf course, cycle hire, wet'n'wild, lighthouse and in whitley bay town where we actually got to see a scottish football match in the pub.We stayed at (parkresort caravan park) this was filthy. We ate from the local takeaways (chinese, pizza, fish and chips) all were lovely and... more

We recently visited Cullercoates (nr Whitley bay) and discovered the comfortable and relaxing Seafront Apartments at 46. Beverley Terrace. It is well positioned, with good transport links, eating places, local places of interest within easy walking distances, and promises a comfortable nights rest. As a self catering facility, only food and drinks are required. Everything else is provided. Cleanliness and... more

There are numerous dining options on the side streets... more

The beaches are of sand and there are some good fish and chip shops. Nearby is picturesque Tynemouth with its beautiful ancient Priory, North Shields, is nice too. Not... more

Whitley Bay is a down-at-heel resort with tawdry pubs and seedy anmusement arcades; it attracts the local charvers and the more downmarket end of the stag and hen brigade, if you can imagine such a thing. Avoid especially at Bank Holiday weekends; avoid normally the rest of the time. For a more pleasant Tyneside coastal experience try Tynemouth or South... more

I have been to Whitley Bay several times for Bank Holiday weekends with friends. In the Summer the place is really lively with bars and clubs all close to the seafront. Easy access to Newcastle city centre on Metro or cheap cabs. Great place for a stag or hen weekend. Went up just before Easter before the season starts and... more
