I have been meaning to write this review for months, it was an absolutely fantastic place to stay. We visited the UK for 3 weeks in June, staying a different place almost every night. The Cumberland Arms was the best place we stayed. Not the fanciest, the cheapest, the most expensive, or the easiest to get to, but it was... More

The whole place has real character and tradition, the bedrooms are spotless, comfortable and well equipped. The bar serves real ales , features live music and the staff have an attitude of making a stranger feel wecome. The location makes visiting the Toon easy. If you want a souless 5 star hotel try somewhere else, if you want a comfortable,... More

What a surprise to stumble on this place after a recommendation and find it a great place to stay the night. A great change from tacky chain hotels. Sumptuous room, very comfortable and spacious. Good bathroom and shower. Fresh coffee and cafetiere! Huge bed. Views over the wonderful Ouseburn valley. And one of the best pubs I've ever come across... More

We stayed one night and were made to feel very welcome. We arrived at about 4pm, tired and hungry and had a pint of Jaspers amazingly nice Ginger Ale and some nachos with homemade guacomole and refried beans. We were then shown to our room which was spacious, clean and well appointed. I particuarly liked having proper milk and filter... More

We visited Saturday early evening, the pub was warm and welcoming with friendly staff ,real fires and a great selection of well kept beers ... however the food was a diffent story....,Imagine a home made steak and ale pie with light crisp pasty and crisy home made fish cakes with golden potato wedges ...then forget it because what you actually... But for the service, this might have been a different review. The main lights in our room didn't work (explained to us on arrival, something to do with local sub station problems), and whilst the room was spotlessly clean, the furniture and furnishings are all vintage and a bit higgledy piggeldy and mismatched. Taken at face value, at £70 per... More

I thought Cantina La Fuente in Guadalajara was the best bar I have ever visited but a return to my native North-East and to the Cumberland Arms reminded me what the very best English pubs have to offer. The ambience is peerless - a traditional boozer with great character. The beer is kept superbly and the food was first class... More

2 rooms, one with a real fire and free library, the other with free live music at the weekends, plus recitals, poetry readings etc for a small fee. Big outdoor area with lots of benches and a good view of the Ouseburn, and a 5 minute walk to 4 other great pubs (Ship, Cluny, Free Trade and Tyne). It's a... More

The Cumberland B&B is a fantastic place to stay! It has a contemporary, classic feel which is comfortable and friendly ( with great coffee). The views from room were lovely. With the added bonus of a fantastic pub below. Great to stay for an over night stay, or a weekend break to explore the local area. More
