I felt I had to visit this funny little museum and it more-or-less met my expectations. There was a lot of pens! The museum is housed over a few rooms, lots of cabinets or pen nibs and pens and ink and blotters and so on. There was a very helpful man there who offered to take me round on a... More

We went to the Pen Museum as it was one of the few attractions in Birmingham open on a Monday. We were expecting a short stay but spent the best part of two hours there being shown round by Jon who helped us make our own nibs and print our names in braille. He told us about the history of... More

For my first visit of Birmingham, I was seeing what good things were available in the city and considering where I was staying, I found the Pen Museum was quite close by so I decided to give it a quick look before I ventured into the city centre and I am glad I did. The Pen Museum is not simply... More

There are so many pens here that it takes your breath away. The exhibition displays from C19th are works of art in themselves. Its crowded into a small space, or so it appears at first, but then there's another room that is huge. You can see how nibs were made and try writing with different styles of pen. I never... More

Nothing to do, cold outside, keeps raining. 'Lets nip in the pen museum, be OK to pass a few minutes and the rain might have stopped by then.' So in we went. It isn't really just a pen museum, it's the story of an industry that rose and fell in such a short time. It's a story that has been... More

Please go as this is a piece of Birmingham's working history that has to be remembered. It's places like this that show how Birmingham was a City of a 1000 trades

This is a true time warp, back to the days when we all used pens and ink. The attraction is that it is hands-on. You can make a pen nib, you can write with many sorts of nib, you can sit at a sloping desk just like everyone did 60 years ago. There are brilliant volunteers who can tell you... More

We had only 2 hours to spare and the Info Centre suggested the Pen Room. Eh? But we went and it was terrific. A walk back into my school days when we used a dip pen and ink and for our daughter a link with history that came alive when she made an old fashioned pen nib. The volunteer guiding... More

I was looking after my 8 year old nephew for the weekend and my wife suggested we take him to them Pen museum in Birmingham which I informed her that a kid would find that boring (and I thought so would I), we took my nephew anyway (Wifes Orders) and how wrong was I. My nephew and I absolutely loved... More

Curious kids and kids at heart love this place. My daughter would go once a week if she could. Lots of hand on stuff making pen nibs, messing about with lots of different old typewriters, Braille machines, pen and ink writing. It is not big, but would fill an hour or so. It is free, and run by very enthusiastic... More
