no real need to visit this. Its a normal run of the mill type folly, nothing that exciting, near reservoir in Ladywood/Edgbaston More

It seems bizarre to rate this construction as a tourist site since it is wholly uninteresting and not anywhere convenient to visit. It says a lot for the imagination of JRR Tolkein that this building, and the even less exciting Edgbaston waterworks tower, could have given rise to "The Two Towers" of Lord Of The Rings fame. I debated what to give this undoubtedly majestic landmark. On the one hand, it is a wonderful building with an interesting history. I for one can easily see how a young J.R.R. Tolkien may have been inspired by the tower. It is a gem in a part of the city you would not expect to find anything quite like it.... More
