Take a peek behind the scenes and then join in some interactive fun as you create your own radio drama complete with sound effects and music! BBC Tour guides give a fascinating insight into the many programmes originating from BBC Birmingham and tell the inside story of what it takes to get them from script to screen. They are also on hand to answer any burning questions relating to technical wizardry, famous faces that have visited the building or even where Nick Owen gets his jokes! This is your invitation to gain access to the rarely-seen world behind the famous TV and radio programmes that are broadcast and produced from BBC Birmingham. BBC Birmingham is a working building so no two tours are the same, but they will always be informative, interesting and entertaining. In 2010 the tours won the Best Tourism Experience in the Heart of England. Ticket prices vary from £5.15 - 6.15 and tours last up to one-and-a-half hours. Tours regularly take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and throughout the day on Saturdays. The building is wheelchair accessible. All children under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult. « less

This is an interesting way of spending a couple of hours without strain, and you'll certainly view certain BBC programmes in a new light after this tour. We had two great guides who were very attentive, gave us loads of information and answered all our questions. Take a camera if you want a photo of yourself at eg the Midlands... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent tour of the BBC Studios in the Mailbox, Birmingham. Our Tour guides, Aron and Kayla were great fun....... charming, knowledgable and organised. Everybody we met was welcoming, and the whole experience was enjoyed by all. Archer's fans in particular were thrilled by a visit to the main studio, and to take part in a short... More

So pleased that you and your group enjoyed the tour - including the interactive element at the end whereby visitors are given the chance to record their very own radio play! We try and incorporate this activity whenever we have a group of sufficient size. However even if your tour group is small you can still try your hand at... More

Thorougly enjoyable experience for anyone. The trip includes vists to radio and TV studios, a radio presenter popped out of his studio during a live broadcast to say hello and answer questions. As an archers fan, visiting 'Ambridge' was fantastic! More

Thank you so much for your review. Our tours pay a visit to The Archers studio whenever recording schedules allow - and I totally agree that it's a completely fascinating experience. I've been working here for a number of years and I'm still always bowled over when I get to have a look behind the scenes of Ambridge! Thanks again... More

After a sneaky pastry at Caffe Gusto we joined our pre-booked tour at the BBC building in the Mailbox. Our (me, my wife and our 15 yr old son) primary objective was to indulge our teenagers passion for all things radio. 90 minutes later we had all had a very enjoyable, informative, entertaining and strangely uplifting tour. The tour guides... More

We were lucky in that the tour was on a Saturday lunchtime, so with not many people around we got to go places you may not have seen on a weekday when it was more busy . We got to go inside a radio studio ; the local news studio , the TV Director's / production office and the Radio... More
