We pass through wide open fields, woodland and rugged mountain scenery as the line twists and turns clinging to the hillside gradually climbing nearly 700ft (200m)from Aberystwyth to reach our destination at Devil’s Bridge. Birds of prey such as Red Kite and Buzzards are regularly seensoaring high above the valley floor and breathtaking views can beenjoyed by all. « less

Take a narrow gauge steam train with great little carriages to the Devils Bridge waterfall. The steep climb up the mountain is breathtaking. Great friendly staff. More

I really enjoyed this steam train ride. It is £15 return and extra £2.50 (each way) for first class. I didn't bother with first class (or Grand class as they call it). The engine and carriages have been loving kept as they were built. It is an hours journey from Aberystwyth to Devil's Bridge with stunning scenery. You have an... More

We went with a group of friends to 'do' as many Welsh railways as possible in three days. We managed to ride on four. All of them very good, but we agreed the Vale of Rheidol Railway just had the edge. The little engine had to work really hard to climb 700 feet in about 11 miles. The railway hugs... More

A good journey except for the seats. Very uncomfortable to your back! A cushion would be handy. More

Nice little Narrow gauge railway that goes from the main train station, so able to walk from the hotel! It takes an hour to get to Devils Bridge, the view from the train gives a taster of the stunning scenary in the area. The carriages are comfortable and good for taking photos from, though don't go for the 1st class... More

This is a must if you are in the area, but be warned if you have a fear of hights I would give it a miss, as my wife was not to keen, but the views are breathtaking on the way. More

Since I live in Aberystwyth and have to take trains to get anywhere, you'd think I'd have had enough of the things, but the Rheidol steam train is a different kind of journey. On a sunny day, especially in the spring, it's a lovely way to spend a day--especially after the lambs have been born, because they watch it so... More
