This popular waterway is a small part of the extensive web of British Inland Waterways. In 2009 an eleven mile section of the Llangollen canal including Thomas Telford's civil engineering masterpieces of the Chirk Aqueduct and the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct was declared by UNESCO to be a World Heritage Site. (Aqueduct completed in 1805). This scenic canal branches from the Shropshire... More

Just returned from a last minute long weekend break on Merlin, a 4 berth narrow boat, hired from the Anglo welsh depot in Trevor, just down the road from Llangollen. Turned up on Friday late lunch, and got they keys very soon afterwards. The boat was very tidy, nice bed linen, towels and well equipped. The staff were really friendly,... More

Spent 4 days, 2 on the Shropshire canal and 2 on the Llangollen canal curtesy of Anglo Welsh boats. As usual (this is our 3rd time with this company) we were not disapointed. The scenery was stunning. sights, sounds, smells even the cold winds with heavy rain at times did not spoil this short break. Autumn in all it's glory.... More

The holiday was fantastic, the boat was all ready when we got there, and the staff where very helpful ( with a special mention to Jack who set us up with all we needed to know ) The sights were amazing and I would recommend every one to at least come and walk the tow-path, More

If you boat on the LLangollen canal this is one village you cannot miss. My Wife and I just spent a week boating (Anglo Welsh) on the LLangollen canals. Our last stop was this village with the same name. If you are not an experienced boater do not try this route. The canal to the village is very narrow and... More

This was the second time we booked with "Welsh Gateway Holidays" based in Nantwich and again we were not disappointed. This time we went through the Llangollen canal. It was harder work than the Shropshire Union canal trip we did last year, but everyone on the barge rose to the tasks. It was a very picturesque route, with plenty to... More

Just back from a fantastic canal boating holiday booked through Welsh Gateway Canal Holidays Nantwich. It was my first experience on a canal boat and full credit to this company. Beautiful canal boat, fully equipped with two good size double berths, gas cooker, T.V., shower. Started with excellent handover by a irreverant, but charming employee of the company, before we... We have just returned from an exceptionally enjoyable 1 week narrow boat holiday on the Llangollen Canal. We ( 3 x adult couples ) took the 8 berth 69' narrowboat Sherwood from the Anglo Welsh Bunbury yard. It may cost a little more per person but we prefer to take an 8 berth boat and leave the dining area set... More

Firstly my let down was the tidyness of the canal banking, it was all nettles & brambles, old tree branches left, these could be used by the canel users, there was no wild life boxes, around seating area's no flower beds/ boxes, I think it would be a good idea to look at other attractions like Shropshire Union canal, Severn... We toured the Llangollen Canal on a narrow boat which we hired from Wrenbury Mill through UK Boat Hire. There were six of us on board an eight berth boat. There was plenty of space considering the size of the boat but you have to get on well with the other people or there may be issues! The boat was... More
