Such a lovely trip on this fantastic heritage railway - a real experience. Our only regret is that we didn't have more time as would have been great to get off the train and do some of the walking trails and then get on the next train. Had a couple of coffees which were really reasonable and the volunteers on... More

Really enjoyed my quick trip on the Ffestiniog Railway today. Blaenau Ffestiniog in blazing sunshine was a real treat; it is one of my favorite parts of North Wales anyway despite it's reputation for inclement weather. We were short on time so just booked a return trip to the halfway station, Tan y Bwlch. The speed that the little train... More

I reckon this line has the best scenery of any of the Welsh narrow gauge routes, the whole way is beautiful. But as with all narrow gauge lines, do expect a rather bumpy ride (compared to standard gauge trains). Keep an eye on drinks which are brought to your seat, my bottle, luckily screwed shut, shook itself off the table.... More

i went because i like trains but was amazed by the stunning views as the train wends its way though the valley. well worth paying extra for the first class observation carriage especially on the way up. A very civilized way of seeing Wales with drinks brought to your seat. i will certainly do it again. More

We splurged on first class tickets in the observation car at the back of the train and were rewarded by breath taking views of forests and mountains as the train climbed up the track whilst enjoying a refreshing local beer. Dragged along by my husband I can honestly say it was one of the highlights of my holiday in North... More

The Ffestiniog railway operates a large selection of diesel and steam trains and offers a pleasant journey to Blaneau Ffestiniog from Portmadoc. The Spooners Cafe breakfast was excellent value for money. Discount for disabled and carers - prebook if you have a wheelchair as space is limited. If you can afford the upgrade fee - it is well worth doing... More

Being a steam enthuesist I admit to being predudiced, however my wife can take railways or leave em. This day out involving a trip on the train to Festiniog and back has left her enthuesing about it to all our friends when we returned home. One would think that the height of summer would be the best time to visit... More

Had a great trip from Blaenau Ffestiniog down to Porthmadog, and back again on a misty, damp day in October. Loved the views from the windows, esp.when coming past Tan y Bwlch ( we were staying near there!). What was really nice was being able to order drinks on the train, those went beautifully with the picnic we had taken,... More

My partners first time on this railway - and a very enjoyable journey we had too. Beautiful autumn weather helped too, as did the helpful staff on the train. And, I'd have happily given you a 5* rating except for the attitude of the barman in your 'pub' attached to the Portmadoc shop - its not acceptable to treat your... More

We boarded at Porthmadog and went as far as Blaenau Ffestiniog, we did get off the train and spent time there. Blaenau Ffestiniog was a very bleak place as it was a Sunday. Perhaps an hour would have been enough- check the return train times and try not to get stuck there as we did. Lovely scenery, an hour long... More
