Pre booking of tickets to ride on the railway is highly recommended. We had to return a second time to get on it. At £25 per adult return ticket and £16 per child return ticket, it isn't cheap. Four people are seated on each bench seat with two bench seats/8 people in each compartment, so it can be cramped. These... more

My husband and I got there quite early, and couldn't get booked on a train until 3pm. Not a problem as there were other attractions nearby. We paid £50 for the both of us, quite expensive I thought. Unluckily for us, there were technical problems that day, and there was a delay, and the 3pm train didn't depart til 4.30.... more

July 2009. This is an extremely expensive trip and the 30 mins time slot at the top of the mountain is not long enough. Two adults and one child cost £60 for a return trip. Carriages clearly state 8 persons only - what this notice fails to highlight, is this does not count children. So the extremely small carriage we... more

What a waste of time and money. Firstly it is not a cheap train ride when you have a family, secondly most of the tickets are pre-sold to tour groups, leaving only late afternoon departures for people that arrive on the day. I was told you could prebook, but had to be done 1 day in advance would charge an... more

Highly recommend booking the Early Bird ticket - you have to take the 9am train (book in advance on the phone) for this one - check it out online. It seems quite pricey but not really when you consider it's an hour there and an hour back. The seats are a bit small (but so were the Victorians) so breathe... more

July 2009 We did the Snowdon Mountain Railway trip recently and for £23 return fare per person I was expecting a good experience. Wrong! We were so tightly crammed into the carriage it was impossible to move, and sitting really up close to strangers is quite awkward. Under 5s squirm on their parents' knees unless the full price is paid... more

As a regular visitor to Llanberis I have made a number of trips up the mountain railway however each time it becomes more shambolic. Problem is that they give priority to selling tickets to tour companies and on certain days even those not in school holiday period all tickets may have been presold for that day hence people driving to... more

We decided to catch the train up Mt Snowdon and to walk down. We took a 2:30pm train up on a Sunday afternoon in July. The train is an expensive option but we enjoyed the ride. The cabin was comfortable and unlike other reviewers we didn't find the cabins over crowded. Definitely think getting a return ticket would be a... more

We went on the Snowdon Mountain Railway on a week-end in early June. Unfortunately it coincided with the opening of the new visitor centre. Consequently, the railway-and the mountain summit -were very crowded. Whilst the views on the tripwere wonderful-the same could not be said about the journey. I do appreciate that it is an authentic Victorian train, but cramming... more
