As we are NT members and moving nearby, for this trip we only visited the gardens. We arrived hoping for spring flowers, and were not disappointed; the most wonderful azaleas and rhododendrons, with so much else in flower. Excellent family day out despite not great weather. Stunning interior with amazing art, furniture and ceilings/walls. Interesting tower and dungeon with a very helpful and enthusiastic 'actor' in costume explaining about the castle and history generally. We stumbled upon an eccentric, friendly and knowageable guide who made the place come alive. This was just as well for there was insufficient signage to help our visit. A GREAT day out. Plenty going on for the young ones with PIKEMEN re-enactments, amusing the watching adults. Lovely courtyard in warm sunshine protected from the prevailing winds. Fantastic architecture all the way, especially the towers and round house tea room-extraordinary! Topped off by beautiful grounds and views. Free to National Trust members---unbeatable value! More

Chirk Castle has to be one of my favourite places to visit and I never get tired or bored of it. With beautiful gardens and surrounding areas, Chirk Castle makes for a great afternoon out. I wish I was lucky enough to live there! More

I felt clearer instuctions at the main gate and an extra sign post would have helped us in finding the way in to the castle. Me and my friends had a lovely day out here. It is situated in a lovely spot surrounded by hills and fields. The castle itself is a lovely building and very interesting to explore. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. More

as a member of the national trust i love to visit the different places and the easily accessable ones by public transport. This is a serious defensive, border guarding piece of real estate. It sits on top of its hill, solid and seemingly timeless.
