I am usually a bit critical of the National Trust, but their early work on Tredegar House is enhancing its history and the gardens will eventually be splendid. I really enjoyed the guided tour of the 1930s rooms upstairs and it's refreshing to know the last owner was a gay eccentric. Lovely lakeside walk and the folk festival on when... More

I cannot believe the changes that have occurred since the national trust have taken over. We visited a year ago and decided to go back as we enjoyed it so much, and what a disappointment! They have replaced most of the beautiful objects within the house with costume furniture so they can be 'handled'. They have no history to them,... More

Went during festive period - quite interesting, but too many kids left to run amok. More

Fabulous house and gardens, children allowed to sit on chairs and staff were very helpful answering queries. Weather was very mixed but overall between the showers it was a lovely day. Well worth the visit, we went on a National Trust free visit voucher day so very resonable to just pay for car park but it would of been worth... More

The house has recently been taken over by the National Trust after years "run" by Newport Council. It will take time for the attraction to come up to the usual National Trust standards. Gardens are starting to take shape and the downstairs of the house. Upstairs was quite bare - no great furniture / trinkets,No wow factor. Great cafe/restaurant &... More

Visited Tredegar House on an ‘open day’ from the National Trust. I am ashamed to admit that even though it’s on my doorstep I’ve never visited it! It’s been very up & down when to find it open so difficult to plan a visit. The National Trust has now taken over ownership of it so this is no longer a... More

The National Trust has recently taken over the running of Tredegar House, just outside Newport and it has opened it to the public as its most 'hands-on' property yet. This place is FABULOUS. We drank homemade lemonade, laughed with the guides, sat on sofas in the housekeeper's parlour (yes - in this house you can actually sit on the furniture... More
