I am from Belfast and the opportunity to visit this jail was great. The history of the jail is immense - from famine - to suffragette - to political - to civil - and regular criminal stories. when my wife and two chums arrived at the prison it was a fine sunny day and just as well because once we set foot in the entrance yard it was as if night had overtook us ! it has to be a must visit when in belfast.! more
Well, being from Belfast, I wasnt sure that this was going to be as interesting as it might be for tourists, but I loved it. Went in June 09 with my sister and my mum and we all had a lovely day. I visited the Crumlin Road Gaol along with my husband and 2 friends. I had been wanting to take this tour for some time but just never got round to it. Im glad I finally did! I really enjoyed this tour. It gives a complete history of the jail, from child prisoners to the suffragettes, from capital punishment right up to recent history. This is a must see tour for all, including both visitors to Belfast, and locals. Staff were very friendly and knowledgable and you can't beat the price - £5! It lasts an hour... more
