We spent a few hours in Hopetoun House and was amazed how interesting it was. It has a very warm and friendly atmosphere, with paintings and furniture befitting this 300 year old house. The guide who did the tour was full of knowledge and so enthusiastic. Glad we took the time to visit. More

Due to the Birdfair organised by RSPB not having enough catering outlets for the numbers attending the staff were overwhelmed in the restaurant especially as it was such a cold day. Food was good freshly prepared and tasty but a long wait. The interpreters were well informed about the history and pictures in this rather fine House which has been... More

We visited Hopetoun house on a Sunday in April., The price of admittance was covered with the Scottish Heritage Pass. (not the Explorer pass). One really needs a car to visit. Busses do not come near. The train station is over 3 miles away. The inside of the house takes you back in time. It is filled with period furniture.... More

First visit was to the Antiques Roadshow. I was very interested that day and decided to go again for a proper visit. The house is spectacular so much history and so many things untouched from centuries ago. The paintings, furniture even the wallcoverings are all authentic...stunning. The grounds are wonderful too. We have decided to visit Hopetoun House today. As weather was nice we decided to cycle there from Edinburgh. When we arrived at the car park and very unfriendly woman from the ticket kiosk started telling us off that it is not a place for cyclist and that cycling path is going around the estate. She was very rude so... More

We loved visiting this house - but then there werent many other visitors! Why not, one wonders? Is the marketing not good enough? Folk dont know what they are missing! As well as a lovely house, the guides were superb - very interesting to chat to - and full of knowledge. It was so good to be able just to... More

Must get the moan over with first. We had afternoon tea in the splendid stable tearoom here. We paid £13.00 each for afternoon tea but only got a half filled teapot and hot water pot and we were realy thirsty so we asked for more tea. When we got our bill the ungracious, red haired waiter charged us £2.00 each... More

On a visit to the house and the gardens. The house is nice, a lot of fascinating rooms, in excellent condition. For me the main attractions are the gardens. Big mature trees, lots of wildlife and great views along the coast. And the Rangers are very friendly, knowledgeable and friendly. Pick up one of their two leaflets, describing walks around... More

Hopetoun House is a 17th Century house built by Bruce (who was also responsible for Holyrood Palace as we see it today), hidden behind William Adam's 18th century facade. It looks impressive, and it is. Inside and out. In the sunshine, the location on the Firth of Forth is superb. The interiors of the state rooms are sumptuous - so... More
