A 15 minute taxi ride from the centre of Edinburgh (£14). The cove was magical and had a wonderful atmosphere to it. Our tour guide Margaret-Ann was absolutely lovely and passionate about showing us around which made it all the more fun! At the end we were invited to take photos and have our own wander around which was like... More

Underneath the bookies and opposite the bingo, who'd have thought there'd be a secret network of caves dug out by hand from under the rock! No one knows the reason, but there's a lot of theories - and the Cove is so atmospheric - you won't be short of ideas after visiting. Margaretanne is a wonderful guide - entertaining and... More

While visiting our daughter in Edinburgh we had planned to go to Surgical Museum but T.I. gave us the wrong details and it was closed. I remembered seeing something about Gilmerton Coves on the internet so phoned and got on afternoon tour. Take bus No.29 from South Bridge - day ticket £3.20. Our guide was lovely and passionate about these... More

It is worth the trip out to the south of Edinburgh to visit this little gem. The guide is passionate about the history of the cove and even invites you to suggest your own theories of the origin - of which there are many! The tour is over 50 minutes long and you don't feel rushed - unlike some of... More

We went today, 4 adults and 7 children under 9 (youngest was 1). We all had a really fascinating time in the Cove. I'd echo the other comments, MargaretAnne is extremly pleasant, welcoming and knowledgable. We arrived not really knowing what to expect but the Cove is really thought provoking. While we arrived with a 2 and a 1 year... More

Went to Gilmerton Cove with colleagues and young people, did not know what to expect however we were pleasantly surprised to find such an interesting place with the most interesting and patient guides, Margaret Anne was knowledgable and interesting and was able to answer all our questions. The coves are amazing and thought provoking, a wee hidden gem indeed. Thanks... More

We'd thoroughly recommend visiting Gilmerton Cove. It's a wee bit out of the city centre (about 20 min bus ride) but well worth it. The tour itself lasts just under an hour and there is time to ask questions and explore the caves for yourself after the guided tour. MargaretAnne, the tour guide, is personable, knowledgeable, and made sure everyone... More

We were 2 couples who took a taxi from edinburgh city center to the "gilmerton cove", located in the surburbs of edinburgh. It took about 15-20 minutes. We did not know what to expect, our hotel hadn't heard of the attraction, and when we arrived all we saw was an ordinary house and a small sign. Well inside we met... More

Gilmerton Cove is a fascinating place that is sure to grow with time. It is suitable for people of all ages and with interest in History Archaeology or just the quirks of Edinburgh. The tour was informative and the staff were very knowledgeable and friendly. We were given plenty of time to explore the caves and tunnels and ponder the... More

Gilmerton Cove will surely be a "big deal" in the not too distant future. Take my advice and go there now. If you are a tourist planning to visit Rosslyn Chapel then you need to make time for this place. I won't spoil it by telling you why, just go! We had the whole place to ourselves with the tour...
