Server was friendly, service was slow. Drinks were fine. None of the food was fresh, but we figured it was fine for pub fare and ate any way. A few hours after the meal I was struck with horrendous food poisoning that basically kept me from doing anything for the rest of my time in Edinburgh. So drinks are okay,... More

I'm really surprised by some of the comments in the previous reviews as I have been in to Maggie Dickson's 4 or 5 times in the last 4 months and have never had any reason to complain, in fact it's the only pub in the Grassmarket that I've gone back to. This weekend just past we went in for lunch... More

We visited today and ordered some food, we were placed at a table where I could clearly see into the kitchen. Good job nobody else could. All our food, I had steak pie(homemade) my wife had lasagne my son had chicken melt and his girlfriend chicken balmoral. Every thing was cooked in microwaves and was the poorest quality ingredients possible.... More

I went to Maggie Dickson's in the middle of the festival. Whilst definitely not bad it wasn't great either. Average food, average service. When delivering my food the barman didn't even hang aroung long enough for me to ask for a second drink! More

Really good value pub food in an excellent setting. Staff were polite and service prompt but relaxed. Nice outside seating if the weather is sunny and we even went back for breakfast the next day. More

Went to this bar on Saturday 04th September 2010 along with some others along the row of pubs in the Grass Market. I was with a group of friends and we were having a drink at the bar. I went to the toilet leaving my half a bottle on the bar next to my friends and while I was away... More

Popped in for an afternoon drink as the place has an outdoor seating area - making it a great place for people watching. The pub is one of a line of about 5 or 6 places on the main walking street in the old town. Looks kinda quaint from the outside. Anyway, found a seat outside, walked in for drinks.... More

On open topped bus tour, fancied some lunch so went back to grassmarket which is full of quaint pubs/restaurants with outdoor seating (a novelty in Scotland!). Avoid this one. The service was poor, we ordered burgers and they came pink. Eventually had to ask for the manager who offered to give us our drinks free- then after stating that we... More
