Anyone who doesn't know about cramped living conditions in historic closes, terraces or tenements will be mildly interested in this exhibit. Many of us in Britain know a lot about these conditions, perhaps even have experienced them ourselves or certainly our parents/grandparents will have. I'm not that old myself but lived in a 'one up one down; without a bathroom... More

After visiting this (1 hour) you will see old town with very different eyes. You will be so happy to live in our present and not two or three hundred years ago. It's worth every pound.

Went on the 21.00 tour on Friday, 17th May. We weren't disappointed - it wasn't what we thought it was going to be (for some reason, had it in our heads that we'd have lots of jumper outies!), but it was a really great tour! The guide was very good (and I'm so sorry, I can't remember his name). It... More

For someone with night blindness, it was a big decision to go into Mary King’s Close during our Holiday, but I’m glad I did. The tour added yet another layer to my understanding of the history of Edinburgh and a little more incite as to why Scots braved immigration to America. Be careful though, it’s a dark labyrinth of uneven... More

The whole tour is a story, take in the story and you will enjoy the tour, alright some of it is a bit contrived, but you come away with a greater understanding of Edinburghs past. You need to understand the story of Edinburghs old town to enjoy Edinburgh, Mary Kings Close helps you to do this Recommended

What a disappointing and somewhat pointless tour! What I knew going into this was that there was a semi-preserved street beneath Edinburgh and that for a fee I could go on a tour about it. I knew the tour guides were in character but other than that I could find no further information. Their website is vague and the flyers... More

This tour was a lot of fun. Our tour guide did a great job in detailing what life was like living in Mary King's Close. It was very interesting and hard to believe how people lived back then! It's unfortunate you can't take pictures down there though. Definitely recommend this tour.

We visited the real Mary King's Close at 6pm on Wednesday 15th May. Our tour guide gave a fascinating insight into the life of the close. Definitely great value for money. Thoroughly recommended.

Visited there this morning. It was on my "bucket list" to do. A lot disappointed. Not as atmospheric as I had imagined. Although the American guide was proficient in delievering her script I didn't think that her accent helped to create the atmosphere. She struggled with some of the Scottish pronunciation. After all people visiting Scotland want Scottish!
