We thought this castle was a great value for the money. It was beautiful and well-preserved. The 10 GBP charge included an audio tour, and we spent almost 2 hours exploring. We attended a tour of the Palace of Holyroodhouse and were absolutely fascinated by the depth of knowledge of our guide as he (in tartan troosers!) led us around the palace explaining its history, the famous (or infamous) characters that once resided there and how the palace is still used today. It's a beautiful palace with lots of history & historic artifacts and furniture. At £10, it's quite pricey though. more

What a boring 'attraction'! This was the biggest waste of money on my entire trip around Europe/UK!!!! Entry was expensive, the grounds were closed and there was scaffolding around the outside of the palace. There were works happening all around, so you had to walk around workmen to see anything. I really enjoyed the Palace. We got the audio guides and found them very well done - informative and entertaining. They take you through the courtyard, to the State rooms and then to Mary, Queen of Scots rooms, which were my favorite. I thought Mary's rooms were amazing. Afterward we toured the ruins of the Abbey - such a shame... more
