About
With its calm, tranquil atmosphere, and stunning views across the Firth of Forth, Lauriston is the perfect place to escape from the bustle of the city centre. Enjoy a woodland walk, a visit to our award-winning Japanese garden, or step back in time and experience what life was like in an Edinburgh middle-class home at the beginning of the 20th century.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I played a concert here with my band as part of a Scotland tour and we loved the whole experience of being hosted by the staff at the castle and sharing our music in such gorgeous surroundings.
The castle staff were so warm and welcoming and really worked hard to help us put on our event. The complimentary cakes / teas /coffees at half time were such a great addition to the whole concert experience and we really appreciate the efforts that the staff went to for the event.
Would highly recommend a visit to the concert and especially to take part in an event hosted by the castle. The setting and ambience really added such a special touch to the whole experience! Thank you Lauriston Castle and we look forward to visiting again at some point in the future!

We had a really enjoyable and interesting visit to Lauriston Castle which exceeded expectations. It’s free to enter and relax in the 33 acre grounds and £6 to get a tour of the castle, which must be pre booked as tour groups are limited in size.
The view of the Firth of Forth and Cramond island was lovely, admittedly on a cloudless day.
The castle is as it was left to Edinburgh Council in the 1920s, with fine art, furniture and fittings. The rooms are elegant but not over the top. Of particular interest is the early 20th century bathroom, with heated towel rail, WC Bath and shower and radiators- all state of the art for the era.
There’s also an outdoor café run by Mimi’s.
All in all we had a great day out.

Good day,
We had a charming visit to Lauriston Castle on the 18th of September 2022 at 14:300. The lady, our guide (unfortunately, I don't remember her name), was very professional. She had a perfect combination of knowledge and the love with which she performed her work. Listening to her narrative that stands behind the Lauriston Castle was exciting.
Thank you very much!

One of my favourite places in Edinburgh I live nearby and I go there to relax and find peace. The view is impressive, the gardens are lovely and well looked after. Highly recommend a visit 😍

We enjoyed our visit to Lauriston Castle very much. The grounds are beautiful, peaceful and there are stunning views. The highlight of our visit though was the tour inside, with Eric the assistant steward. He was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the collection and architecture. Highly recommended!

Definitely a fabulous place to escape crowds in Edinburgh. A beautiful country house consists of 16th century’s tower house, 19th century’s mansion and 20th century’s Edwardian interior! The ground is also beautiful and has a good view of Firth of Forth. Our guide was very knowledgeable and humorous. Had a wonderful experience here! 5 star recommendation!

I visited Lauriston Castle and had a picnic on the grounds, visited the bakeshop, and took the tour with Tracy, the Steward. Highly, highly recommend visiting Lauriston Castle and especially the tour. It was small and the Steward was outstanding. She was personable, funny, and obviously extremely knowledgeable about this beautiful place! This is my second trip to Scotland and this stop was a standout for sure!

Beautiful, tranquil grounds to visit, with lovely views across the Firth of Forth - we hadn't been for quite some time which made it extra special.
Grounds were suitable for wheelchairs and others with limited mobility eg path around perimeter had area beside each sets of steps for wheeling, level with no cambering.
Courtyard cafe (Mimi's) - staff very pleasant, produce good, and good pandemic safety/protection measures in place (staff wearing well-fitted masks and gloves; customer orders and pays, then staff bring drinks/edibles to table; tables spaced suitably apart).

We wandered round the vast gardens of the Castle. It is a wonderful place for children dogs and just chilling. We had a wee tea and scone at Mimi's Bakehouse. Disappointed that the Castle itself wasn't open but understand completely. One day we will return to go inside
