you wouldn't normally think that visiting a cemetery should be on the tourist trail but the necropolis is something quite different. the lady at tourist information mentioned that there were good views over glasgow from there. it's just behind the cathedral and there are gentle foot paths leading to the top. i would say the promise of good views over... Glasgow Necropolis is a living testament to the history of this dear green place and a valuable lesson for those visiting this city of the dead in the cultural and commercial history of Glasgow. Beautiful sculpture sit alongside amazing architecture and Victorian ingenuity of pre cast cast iron monuments. A work by a very young Charles Rennie Macintosh and tombs... More

Nobody who visited Glasgow told us about this incredible place. It is a history lesson and a moving tribute to the great days of this wonderful city which was once celebrated as the "third city of the empire". We saw it only because our wonderful guide insisted that it was essential viewing. The entrance was most unpromising, but as we... More

These are the resting places of the middle and upper classes but even so you can see the effect of child mortality by the sheer number of children buried in the... More

This makes for an interesting, but some what emotional day out. It is amazing how much you can discover about different ways of life and society, and their stories. But some can be rather sad. Otherwise it is a very enlightening place to which is just good for learning more about the previous lives and generations of Glasgow, or just... More
