This Would have been 5* rating but Lady Cawdor Left her dogs in her Range Rover in the heat and the prices were too high Fabulous house/castle, lovely antiques and tremendous history.Has some very lovely gardens and surrounding forest walks so was just about worth the fee paid which were nearly £18 for two of us. Was a little upset... More

There are many castles to choose from in Scotland but I recommend you keep this one on the list. I was staying in Inverness & it was easy to get there by bus. The current Lady of the house actually lives there about 8 months of the year, then vacates as tourist season takes over. It's said to be the... More

What a lovely place to visit and to linger! The house tour is interesting. If you don't know if you like tapestries, visit here and you will find yourself enchanted by them; since the ones in the bedroom were ordered for the castle in 1682. The gardens are also wonderful. I don't know what I liked best: the plants, the... More

Although associated with the events of Shakespeare's "Scottish play," the castle was not actually built until centuries after Duncan's death. The castle is what you imagine a Scottish castle to look like, with an ancient keep, moat and drawbridge. The notes in the various rooms you tour (self-guided) were written by the late Earl and are sometimes quirky and humorous.... More

Plan on spending about an hour at this well presented attraction. The location is rural and the grounds are beautiful. This attraction allows you to visit many of the rooms. Information is provided about each room, typed and posted. The descriptions are lengthy and take awhile to read, often causing congestion in the small rooms. The dungeon and original kitchen... More
