Guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable, at last I understand how a spirit safe works and what it does. Tasting was fun, and I loved the chocolates.

The staff was very welcoming and helpful.
Tour guide was knowledgeable about the distillery and the local area, and very amicable. The tour was structured as you'd expect. Takes about 45 minutes, including tasting. Recommend 6 whisky taste, although the chocolates aren't the best match to the whiskies. The whiskies offered in the tasting are very standard (e.g. Lagavulin 16)...

After spotting a black grouse on the moor along the way toward the distillery we knew we were in the right place (wrong whisky though)! Spendid little facility for visitors and the tour guide was wonderful. Especially liked the smells which were drifting around from the process and the traditional storage cellar was particularly atmospheric.

Dalwhinnie is an excellent malt and the distillery sits in magnificent surroundings. However, this malt is part of the Diageo behemoth and as such has had any quirky characteristics polished off. Strict adherence to Health & Safety rules seems to merge with bland PR office gimmickry to leave a rather bland taste in the mouth.
At one point I anticiapted...

This distillery is reputedly the highest in Scotland but despite our visit being in March the weather was supprisingly mil.. Being out of season we had found that several distilleries in the Highlqnds were not yet open to visitors, but were pleasantly surprised to find that this little gem was open and very welcoming. We were the only two visitors...

Make sure that you join 'Friends of Classic Malts' as you get a journal and this gets you free tours. Tour is good and you get to sample a malt whiskey and also other malts that are owned by the same group.

Compared to one or two distilleries that I have visited Dalwhinnie's visitor centre is decorated very well with a bit of its history on one wall. It has a good stock of a reasonable variety of malt whiskies, and the staff are friendly. What is missing (hence only 4 stars) is a cafe, which just off a long stretch of...

Stopped in here on family holiday with 4 yr old son. Enquired about tour and went through times etc only to be told children under 8 are not allowed due to health and safety rules. Utter tosh as no H&S rule says this - its corporate man at Diageo who has decided this based on his risk assessment.....too bad for...

We didn't do the tour as we didn't have time, but they did have the great idea of just having the whiskies to sample without doing the tour (£6).
I thought the younger (and therefore cheapest) whiskey was actually better than the more expensive older one!
Good toilet facilities and a good shop with informative displays makes it a neat...

Nothing really wrong with the tour but not much right with it either. Very impersonal and corporate. You'll get pretty much the same tour no matter which Diageo distillery you visit.
The thing that makes this distillery stand out is the location. The highest in Scotland and snowed in most winters. A lovely location and a really good whisky -...
