We were pleasantly surprised by what appeared to be a small Castle but the visit was greatly enhanced by the two lively and entertaining room guides. Top tip, attach yourself to one of the coach tour guided parties, nobody seems to mind in fact it's positively encouraged! One of the most romantic and well known Castles in Scotland, it has... More

We stopped for an hour or two, had lunch and then a walk to the castle. It has been very well rebuilt (1930s) and the guides impart their knowledge of the history of the castle. There are amazing views over the Loch and it lives up to its name of the most romantic castle in the area.

Such a beautiful castle in a spectacular spot. Views are worth the stop alone, the castle is interesting and lovely inside. Quite narrow in some places mind! Lovely cafe, not cheap but not the priciest carrot cake either! Give it a go!

Eilean Donan Castle is in one of the most beautiful locations in Europe. It is a 'must visit' destination in my book. Take a walk across the bridge in to another world, it is a thrill to be part of one of the most iconic vistas in Scotland. The rooms are well laid out and contain real treasures, for example... More

The castle renovations must have been quite the undertaking. While the outside looks to be 14th Century, the inside is much later. The family did a wonderful job with the rooms. The visit was informative. I loved the kitchen recreation. It was very amusing as well as informative. The family tree was fascinating and so detailed! A wonderful visit on... More

This castle from the outside looks like a stereotypical medieval Scottish castle, and that's what drew me to it...a stone fortress set on an island in a loch?! Now that's where I would've lived had I been a laird! It is stunning from the road. I was expecting the same look on the inside and was a little surprised that... More

We had a brief stop over on our way to Inverness. Did not go inside, took some snaps and ate lunch at the cafeteria. The entire area is very well maintained. Lunch was great too in the Vegetarian as well.

Eilean Donan has a reputation built on the back of its appearance in Highlander. It is a nice enough building mostly constructed in the early to mid 20th century. For a modern building it is relatively scenic but it lacks the authenticity of an historic original. The castle is probbly most famous for its bridge over the mud flats. It... More

This castle is the most photographed castle in the world and it doesn't disappoint, although there is work being done on the castle at the moment but this is upsetting a lot of people. it is essential that these works are done and although its never the right time for everyone it still has to be completed for generations of...
