This was our first stop after coming back to the mainland from the Isle of Skye. It sort of took us by surprise. We knew we were getting close, then all of a sudden there was this beautiful castle on the water. There was a bagpiper out front which gave it even more of an authentic feel. The castle is... more

It has always been an ambition of mine to visit this beautiful castle and in August this year I was able to do just that, and was not disappointed. The weather wasn’t brilliant and the tide was out, but that didn’t really matter – I was there!! The outside of the castle is very photogenic and in a stunning setting... more

The Eilean Donan castle is situated in Dornie along the A87, it can be seen easily from the road surrounded by beautiful views of Skye and surrounding areas. The Eilean Donan is classed as the most romantic castle in Scotland and i decided to visit in September 2009 on my way to Skye. The weather was gale forced winds and... more

Dear Phil, many thanks for your comments and I'm pleased to hear you enjoyed your visit. In defense of Margaret, our 80 year old ticket collector, she is absolutely terrified of strong winds, as she barely weighs 6 stone soaking wet and has had a number of nasty experiences in Highland gales!!! As you refer to, that morning was wild,...

Have always wanted to visit this castle and finally got round to doing it this summer. We had a gorgeous sunny day which made it all the better. Admission to the castle is reasonable. Tour is self guided so you can freely enjoy it at your leisure. It is a very touristy place so beware if you go at peak... more

I visited the castle with friends on 1 August arriving with pride and excitement at showing new visitors around a castle I have visited at previously and stopped to admire many times. But the shocking lack of pleasantries and general atrocious lack of awareness of staff in the visitor soon took the shine off the day. 1. drive into car... more

Eilean Donan Castle is an absolutely gorgeous castle in the Scottish Highlands, less than two-hour drive from Inverness and an even shorter drive from the Isle of Skye. One can easily see the castle and surrounding area in a few hours, or spend a few days and enjoy the beauty of the Highlands. The castle itself, while not an original... more

The title really says it all. The castle looks amazing and is in the most beautiful setting. Its not very expensive to see, so even if you just want to wander around for a bit I think its worth it. It wasn't very crowded when I was there, but I assume it could be on some days so you may... more

Well worth a visit, it’s been rebuilt but that doesn’t detract from the experience. Stunning location and a nice place to stop on the way to the Isle of Skye. more

We chose to visit this castle as my husband is a highlander fan. The admission charge, (I think £5.50) was really reasonable for the quality of the attraction, compared to the visit to Glenfinnan Monument, which I'll review separately. The castle had really detailed displays and guides on hand to discuss the history and meaning of some of the features/displays... more
