We had bought NTS membership so can't comment about value. We parked at Burns Cottage looked at that then walked along the walkway to the main museum. It was lovely to have something linking the two attractions. Kids loved huge mouse statue! Museum was very dark but lots to do and mouses for kids to spot. Only spoiler was some... More

Very different than the old days when I last visited. In superb condition and although it contains very little this does give the feeling of how it would have been in Burns's day. The sound effects add real atmosphere and the bed where three of Agnes and William Burnes children were born makes the place rather special. Parking is excellent... More

As a child of Scottish immigrants who grew up in poverty in Scotland, I got a good picture not only of Burns' birthplace and childhood life, but also of what life was like in many other hand-to-mouth households. I loved the old Scots words and definitions painted on the walls and furniture. This is free with a National Trust membership. More

New National Trust run museum is worth a visit - can tie in with cottage, gardens, Brig o Doon etc - and it has a good cafe with great staff. Very clean. More

despite there not being a lot to the cottage i feel that its sparseness contributes to the feeling of what it would have been like for Burns growing up there. the sound effects and writing on display added to the sense of history. beautifully set out inside and outside. More

This was one of those places that one feels "ripped off" about paying money to see. Although interesting, there isn't much to it. I suppose if one is a passionate Robert Burns enthusiast, it might be considered "mecca", and it is interesting, I'm glad that the attraction was coupled with the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum (just down the road) as... Sadly did not have enough time to fully enjoy the wonderfully restored cottage or the new(ish) visitor centre, but the time we did have flew by. What a great set up! The Visitor Centre/Museum is 1st rate on it's own right, but combined with the exceptional tour provided by the volunteer guide it becomes a cultural gem. I have a... More

We came on a March weekend, about noon, and the parking lot had only a few cars, so we wondered where everyone was! When we left, it was full. The price is worth it, however unguided, there isn't much information about Mr. Burns unless you already know it. The house takes only a few minutes to walk through, and there... More

We drove to Ayr and stopped to view the Auld Kirk and the Brig O'Doon. We then walked down a tree-lined road; large red and brown leaves were falling from the chestnut trees, reminding us that it was autumn. It wasn't far to the Tam O'Shanter Experience, a pseudonym for a gift shop and a peaceful café selling delicious home... More
