Now the canal id fully open, walk the tow paths, watch the barges which sail in the summer months and cap it off by visiting Falkirk Wheel and/or Linlithgow Palace.

We are sorry that you found the Town Boat Trip expensive at £16 for a party of 2 adults and 4 children. There's not much you can get these days for £4 per adult and £2 per child. More

It was really brilliant to just get away from everything. I enjoyed our trip on the Union Canal over the Avon ViaDuct but declinde the offer to go outside and enjoy the view. I know I missed an experience but I just hadn't the nerve to walk on the viaduct.

We recently took a trip on the canal and it really was a fantastic way to spend an afternoon. The volunteers who crewed the boat were knowledgeable, enthusiastic and made the trip a lot of fun! We were taken on one of the original canal boats which was in great condition and definitely looked the part! The whole experience was... More

Narrow boats come through the Canal Centre at Linlithgow. They can tie up and visit the splendid tearoom and look down on the Linlithgow Palace to the north. Hire a boat from there and take a trip along the canal to the Avon Aqueduct.

This review is based on a visit to the Canal Centre Cafe and Museum only. Currently walking the Union Canal and the Canal Centre at Linlithgow is a natural break point along the tow-path. Lots of colourful barges and boats to occupy the mind and a very welcoming, comfortable cafe right when you need one. The staff are volunteers and... More

The Linlithgow Union Canal Society was one of the organisations that kept alive interest in the then truncated Union Canal in the 70's, 80's and 90's by running boat trips, a tea room and a small museum at the old Manse Road Basin (uphill from the railway station). They still do, even though the canal is now fully navigable from... More
