We found Blarney Castle and the Blarney Stone to be slightly overrated. The grounds were nicely landscaped but we were unprepared for the 100 tightly curved steps to the top of the castle to kiss the Blarney Stone. Several travelers could not make the tight squeeze and had to backtrack to the bottom without completing the trip. Once at the... more

We suppose that this is a quintessential tourist must, but we found it well worth the climb up the narrow winding staircases. It is a special treat to go to a place that you've heard so much about all your lives. A lovely view of the country side and a workout at the same time (for us older folk). more

As empty as the words of the former lord of Blarney to Queen Elisabeth I. were as poor is the castle today. The German Guide book Baedeker says: "No Ireland trip without Blarney." And I believed it and my husband and I travelled about 100 km from Rock of Cashel to Blarney to watch this beautiful "non plus ultra castle"... more

Really enjoyed my trip to Blarney Castle. I travelled to cork for a few days with my sister, and would recomend a trip to Blarney. The Castle is set in lovely grounds, and worth exploring is the Rock garden, full of little nooks and crannies, fairy steps and grotto's. Then climb the steps inside the castle (not good if you... more

There is no way you can come all the way to Ireland from the states and not do this. Sure, it's touristy and crowded and a bit expensive, but you will never again have a chance to do this. While the castle and the stone were largely what I expected, what I did not expect was how expansive and beautiful... more

Like some other reviewers, I did some serious eye rolling prior to visiting Blarney Castle. But in the end, we were Ireland, we were in the area, we might as well do it, despite the steep entrance fee. I have to say, it surpassed my expectations and so I would give it a mild thumbs up. Given the very nice... more

My trip to Ireland would not have been complete without a trip to the Blarney Stone. This memorable "first base" moment was more exciting than some similar kisses with actual people. I spent about 3 hours at the castle and packed a picnic lunch to eat on the grounds. The castle had fairly good interpretive signs to tell you about... more

Had visited the castle in April end 09. Its quite accessible from Cork City Bus station. There are buses every hour to and from Blarney. The return tickets costs abt 6 Euro. At Blarney the castle entrance is few steps from the bus station. The whole Blarney castle experience is quite refreshing, as the walk through the estate and rocks... more

I was dragged here kicking and screaming, expecting a very cheesy, touristy negative experience. I was totally wrong. The grounds are huge and stunningly beautiful and the commercialization I feared is minimal. The castle is in ruins but is still quite attractive from the outside. I planned on spending an hour but could easily have spent 3 just walking the... more
